The Alabaster Sphinx at Memphis is part of The Egyptian Suite, a set of six original etchings on copperplate. This series of prints gave Weschke the opportunity to demonstrate his ability to render, in the form of an enduring visual artefact, the essence of what he had witnessed on his travels to Egypt. In this work, he has captured his passion and fascination for timelessness and relevance of the magnificent artefacts left by the ancient Egyptians. One is reminded too of his enduring admiration for the big cats, undoubtedly part of the reason he was drawn to this particular subject.
