André Bicât (1909-1996)

André Bicât worked as a painter, printmaker and teacher. In the 1930’s he worked as a set designer for the theatre. Later (1966 to 1974), he became a tutor in the Printmaking Departments at the Royal College of Art and the City and Guilds Art School in London.

He exhibited across Europe including the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture in Paris, the Royal Academy and the Redfern Gallery (London). His work is in many collections including the British Museum, National Gallery of Wales, Dallas Museum of Fine Art, Brooklyn Museum, Tate Gallery and the V&A.

During his life he has solo exhibitions at Leicester Galleries, London (1949-1968) and Bohun Gallery, Henley (1975-1984). There have been three retrospectives of his work, at Reading Museum and Art Gallery (1966), Attic Gallery, Swansea (1997), and Merriscourt Gallery, Sarsden (1999).
