One of a set of images featured in the book Herry Perry: Artist & Illustrator. This card features a preparatory drawing of a pub sign for The Good Neighbour, from the 1950s.
Herry Perry was an English artist of the 1920s–1950s. Her first love was wood engraving but, having acquired a broad artistic education at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in the 1920s, she was able to turn her hand to many art forms. During her career she produced book illustrations, large-scale murals, maps and pub signs. Her best-known works, however, are the sixty or so witty and inventive posters she designed for London Transport between 1927 and 1938.Â
