Bryan Pearce (1929 - 2007)
Bryan Pearce (1929 – 2007) was born in St. Ives, Cornwall and attended Leonard Fuller’s St. Ives School of Painting in the 1950s. Today he is one of the best known British exponents of the naïve style of landscape painting.
Pearce had his first solo exhibition at the Newlyn Gallery near Penzance in 1959, and his first solo exhibition in London at the St Martin’s Gallery in 1962. His work is held in many public collections and he is very popular with the private collectors.
Pearces’ paintings now command high prices at auction and sell in the tens of thousands. Thankfully, there are a number of prints available, produced from the original paintings. These are mostly screen prints, produced in relatively low quantities. Screen prints in particular suit Pearce’s painting style and the result is a print that captures his flat, blocks of colour and heavy outlines.
Most of Bryan Pearce’s work features his home town of St. Ives and the surrounding area of Penwith.
