Dan Binns (1896 – 1964) lived in Sutton, South Yorkshire. He worked in a Mill, studying art at Glusburn Evening Institute until his mother took aver his mill job to allow him to attend art school. He taught art in Skipton County Secondary School for 17 years until his retirement in 1960. He recorded life in and around Skipton in the 1930s and 40’s. This wood engraving is of Keighley Market.

He exhibited work in Yorkshire, the North East and at the Royal Academy. He also exhibited with his son, David Binns, at Cartwright Hall in Bradford and in Brent Art Gallery, the gallery owned and run by his son David and daughter-in-law Molly.

Artwork Condition: Very good condition having had a conservation clean.
Framing: Framed in a modern ‘worn silver’ frame. The frame is reconditioned, has some light wear, but is in good condition and ready to hang.
