Palle Nielsen (1920 – 2000) was a Danish artist working largely in woodcut and linocut forms. He studied at the Royal Danish academy of fine arts, and became established as a leading graphic artist in the 1950’s, winning an award at the Venice Bienalle in 1958.

His work is in the collections of MoMA, the V&A and the British Museum, as well as many Danish museums.

It is likely this wood block image was conceived as part of the ‘The Soldier and the Child’ series. It has had some conservation work and it now mounted and framed to a conservation standard. You can read a bit more about the conservation of this artwork and The Soldier and the Child series, in this blog article, Silverfish and Sticky Tape.
