We have fifteen of the J. L. Carr picture books for sale, a couple of which are modern reprints. J. L. Carr of Kettering established The Quince Tree Press in 1966 and started to produce small pocket books of poems and decorated maps.

The small books are usually 16 stapled pages, about 9 x 13 cm, with decorated covers. Carr described them: ‘These books fit small envelopes, go for a minimum stamp and are perfect for cold bedrooms – only one hand and a wrist need suffer exposure’. 15 Picture Books were published by J. L. Carr. He wanted to champion 20th Century Wood Engravers, whose work he thought had been overlooked. His first was on Thomas Bewick, which included extracts of his autobiography. Others are simply visual. They are great little publications and the perfect tiny gift for a wood engraving enthusiast. A further 4 were published by R. D. and J. M. Carr who continued the series.

All books are in good condition showing some signs of age, but no major damage. Some of the books have a mark from the original price sticker.
